Diana Simpson Salazar (née à Glasgow
en 1982) est une compositrice et artiste sonore
basée à Londres. Elle a effectué
ses études de composition à la Royal
Scottish Academy of Music and Drama puis à
l'Université de Manchester, où elle
a obtenu un doctorat avec le soutien du Arts and
Humanities Research Council en 2009. Ses oeuvres
électroniques explorent le potentil sonore
pour réaliser des environnements dynamiques,
spatialisés et des manipulations spectrales.
En plus des ses oeuvres pour support, Diana se produit
régulièrement en tant qu'improvisatrice,
dans des collaborations pour le théâtre,
la danse ou du cinéma en Grande-Bretagne.
Ses oeuvres ont été jouées
au Royaume-Uni et à l'étranger et
récompensées dans des concours internationaux,
en particulier le CIMESP (Sao Polo, Prix du public
2005, mention d'honneur 2007), à Synthèse
Bourges (Résidence 2005), Prix SCRIME en
2007, 2ème prix "diffusion" à
l'Espace du son, 1er Prix Destellos en 2009, et
1er prix à Musica Viva en 2009.
Diana a été compositrice en résidence
au CEMI (Center for Experimental Music and Intermedia)
en Floride, à l'Institut de Musique Electroacoustique
de Suède, à l'Oxford Center for the
Arts, à Montreal et à la fondation
Destellos en Argentine. Elle enseigne les technologies
musicales à Kingston University à
Londres.
Diana Simpson Salazar (b. Glasgow, 1982) is a composer
and sound artist based in London. She undertook
studies in composition at the Royal Scottish Academy
of Music and Drama followed by the University of
Manchester, where she completed her PhD (supported
by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council)
in 2009. Her electronic works explore the potential
of sound to create dynamic sonic environments through
spatial layering, chains of gestures, and spectral
manipulation. In addition to composing fixed electronic
works, Diana performs regularly as a laptop improviser,
and has collaborated on theatre, dance and film
projects across the UK.
Her works have been performed and broadcast throughout
the UK and internationally. Many of them have been
recognised in international competitions including
CIMESP (International Electroacoustic Contest of
São Paulo, Public Prize 2005, Honourable
Mention 2007), the Bourges Competition of Electroacoustic
Music (Residence Prize 2006), SCRIME (Prix SCRIME
2007), the ‘Space of Sound’ (L’Espace
du Son) Diffusion Competition (2nd prize, 2008),
Prix Destellos (1st prize, 2009) and Música
Viva (Prizewinner, 2009).
She has been a composer-in-residence at CEMI (Center
for Experimental Music and Intermedia) at the University
of North Texas, Atlantic Center for the Arts in
Florida, the Institute for Electroacoustic Music
in Sweden, Orford Center for the Arts, Montreal
and the Destellos Foundation in Argentina. Diana
is a lecturer in music technology at Kingston University,
London.
